Camryn's Monkey News
2007 2006 2005

September 18, 2007 - The whole crew headed to the pediatrician this morning and Camryn saw her new favorite doctor!  :)  She weighed 30 pounds 2 ounces and was 36.5 inches long!!  (Look for the updated Length and Weight charts soon)  Dr. Steele also mentioned that her 2 year molars were coming in.  Hopefully that won't bother her too much!  Camryn has been caught up on her immunizations since 15 months, so we weren't expecting her to need any type of shot today.  This made Caitlin very happy since she is so paranoid about the dr's office anyway.  The office already had flu shots in, so we asked Camryn if she wanted it today.  She excitedly said yes, she wanted a shot and a band-aid!  lol  Needless to say, Brad and I were surprised and all for it, but Caitlin... Not so much!  She wanted to go out of the room!  Camryn hardly complained at all though, she just said, "ow" when the needle went in her arm and gave a big smile when she got her band-aid.  Caitlin opted NOT to get her flu shot today, but we are all hoping that she will do just as well in November when she does get it!!

September 15, 2007 - Happy 2nd Birthday Camryn!!  Brad will agree that Camryn has seemed like she was 2 for a while now, bit at 2:40 this morning she turned 2!  Luckily no one was up to celebrate at that time...  We had a birthday cookout today with friends and family, which turned out great!  The weather was sunny and perfect!  We think it was the happiest day of Camryn's life because all of her friends were there and the focus was on HER (not Caitlin)!  ;)  The kids all had a blast decorating their own cupcakes, playing mini-mini-golf in the yard, chasing bubbles and playing on the swingset!
Camryn's language continues to be her strong point.  She easily strings together whole sentences and is speaking more clearly so that other people, besides us, can understand her.  She knows her colors, basic shapes and is learning how to count objects.  She can sing her ABC's but doesn't recognize any letters by sight except for "O."  Sandboxes and dirt and rocks with rough edges, flowers and singing and pretending she's Nolan... Counting and talking and saying hippopotamus almost as well as Nolan at 2 years!!  These are a few of her favorite thiiings.  Oh and she's also starting to do 24 piece puzzles. :)

July 2, 2007 - Camryn is no longer the baby!! Her little sister Cassidy was born today, making Camryn the middle child.  She came to see Cassie at the hospital today, and was very interested.  She wanted to hold her, but wasn't too sure exactly what to think.  I'm sure she will be a very good big sister, even if she is a little rough with her...

June 3, 2007 - Camryn wore panties to bed last night, and was dry in the morning.  She has been wearing a pullup to bed until now, but was dry most mornings anyway.  We cut out pullups during naps about a month ago and have only had one accident since.  Hopefully the nighttime dryness continues... This concludes Camryn's potty training news!

May 26, 2007 - Camryn took her first plane ride today, a long 4 hour flight from Raleigh to Salt Lake City, followed by the second leg to Denver.  She did very well, and took an hour long nap when she got tired.  She didn't have a ticket, so rode in Mommy and Daddy's lap.  She passed the time listening to music, watching a DVD on the laptop, and coloring.

March 15, 2007 - Camryn turned 18 months old today!  It's hard to believe, I know!  A rite of passage when turning 18 months is to go to the pediatrician. ;)  I took Camryn today and to both of our suprises, Camryn didn't need any immunizations!  She is caught up until she turns 2 in September.  Camryn is continuing along her same growth curve.  She was 34.75 inches long (>97%) and weighed 26 pounds 3 ounces (75%).  For those of you keeping track, Caitlin was only 34 inches and 26 pounds 8 ounces...  at 2 YEARS!  lol  Anyway, the appointment went well and the Dr. thought that Camryn was doing great!  He was also quite impressed that Camryn was already potty trained. ;)  Brad has updated the Length and Weight charts so check the main webpage for the link!

January 22, 2007 - We didn't start right away when we made it back to Apex, but once we had a couple days to dedicate to watching her we took the plunge and put Camryn in panties for good. Amazingly she took to it right away! We had no accidents the first 3 days. I guess teaching her to go while she was still in pull-ups paid off. We are now at one week since starting, and she has had a few accidents here and there, but we are calling her potty trained. She is still in pull-ups (Dora's) during naps and bedtimes, but she has even been dry at some of those. Yay Camryn!!

January 2, 2007 - This is about the age we moved Caitlin in to a big girl bed, to prepare for Camryn's arrival, so we decided to do something a little unusual with Camryn. We moved her into the bed with Caitlin. Caitlin's day bed has a trundle that raises up to make a king, so they each have their own half. Night 1 went better than expected, with both of them going to sleep in less than half an hour.

December 25, 2006  - Well we were halfway kidding about potty training when we found out about baby #3, but we have been trying to get Camryn interested since then.  We bought her some pullups, took her into the bathroom with Caitlin, and got her comfortable sitting on the potty.  She has gone a couple times over the past couple months, but nothing consistent.  However yesterday in Ashland something must have clicked, because we took her to the potty and she went.  We kept taking her all evening, and she kept going every couple hours.  She went again in the morning, and several times in Lexington and Greenville.  We even told her to hold it once in the car when she was thinking about going and she waited.  She still isn't telling us when she needs to go, and still has lots of accidents, but we are ready to start using panties once we make it back to NC.  More updates to come...

December 21, 2006  - Camryn's other 3 molars have poked through, so she is up to 12 total teeth.  Unfortunately she has started using her teeth for evil and biting people, so we'll have to see if we can curb that bad habit.

December 18, 2006  - Camryn had her 15 month appointment today, and she was gigantic!! 23 lbs 15oz, and 33 inches tall.  She is now in the >97th percentile for height!  She is taller and heavier than Caitlin was at 18 months, not that we are comparing the two of them... that's on another part of the webpage :)  That also means she is only a year behind Caitlin in clothes, so she is wearing the clothes Caitlin wore last winter, from 22-26 months of age.

November 25, 2006  - Camryn will be giving up the baby title soon, and will be promoted/demoted to the middle child.  Our new baby is due July 5th!  Time to start potty training... ;)

November 23, 2006  - Camryn got her first molar (bottom left) today just in time for turkey.  Can you chew with just 1 molar? :)  None of the others look like they even close though.

September 18, 2006  - Camryn had her 12 month checkup today, and she is starting to pull away from Caitlin in height as well as weight.  She weighed in at 21 lbs 7oz, and was 31 inches tall.  That is the 95th percentile for height, and 50th for weight.  She got a clean bill of health, and an array of shots :)

September 15, 2006  - Our little Ryn is 1 year old today!!  She is saying several words now, like "uh oh", "ball", and "book".  She has been walking for several months now, so she can run and turn in circles with ease.  She understands a lot of what we say to her, and likes following Caitlin around imitating the things she does (which is good and bad).

August 14, 2006  - The rest of Camryn's incisors are in now, bringing her up to 8 teeth.  This should improve her bite and help her eat those chicken nuggets she likes so much.

July 5, 2006  - I don't want to jinx her, but Camryn is now a walker!!! When we were in Lexington last month she took 2 steps several times and 3 steps once. Up until this Monday she hadn't been doing a whole lot. But, on Monday she took 5 steps, then yesterday she took 7 steps. Also, until yesterday she had to be coaxed to walk. Starting last night though, she would just decide to walk towards something if she wanted it. Today she walked 11 steps with a flutter at the end, so almost 12! ;) She looks so cute toddling along, but weird too because she seems too little to walk. Anyway, hopefully she'll keep it up and be running on the beach with Caitlin by the end of the summer!!

June 19, 2006  - Camryn had her 9 month well-baby check-up today!  She was 19 pounds 2 ounces (55%), 28.5 inches tall (90%) and her head was still small (30%). :)  Camryn's mental and physical development is right on track.  As usual Camryn was "perfect" except she had the beginnings of an ear infection from a fever and runny nose over the weekend.
In non doctor related news, Camryn has started waving and clapping.  I'm not sure of the date that she began waving, but it has been a week or less.  She just started clapping today though.  Maybe you can check it out on a video soon...

June 17, 2006  - Camryn's top right lateral incisor is in!  She is now up to 5 teeth, but it won't last long...  Her next lateral incisor is very close to breaking through the skin too.

June 8, 2006  - Along with taking her first steps last night, Camryn said another recognizable word. "Uh - oh".  Of course it was the cutest thing anyone had heard, but it didn't seem like she knew what she was saying.  Today we went to see cows and horses at Deuce's Nana's farm.  After seeing all of the animals we went back to the house for dinner.  Deuce was sitting in my lap and he dropped a peach.  Almost immediately Camryn said "Uh-oh".  ;)  I thought it was just a coincidence, but once we got back to Lexington she said it a few more times in the correct context.  We would drop something on purpose just to see if she knew what she was saying and she did!!

June 7, 2006  - Camryn has been balancing herself standing up for at least a week now.  Sometimes she will let go of the couch or whatever is holding her up, and just stand there.  The longest times have been 10-15 seconds.  With a lot of coaxing we got her to take her first steps!!   They were very wobbly, and she didn't really have good control of what she was doing, but she knew if she moved her feet she wouldn't fall over.  It started with just one step to catch her balance, and moved on to two.  Before the night was over, she hit 3 steps, but then when we went to get Grandpa Wright so he could see, she was too tired to take even 1 more step for him... :)  I don't think he believed us!  Hopefully she will move on from her first steps to full fledged toddling in the next few weeks!

June 5, 2006  - As usual, teeth come in pairs, so Camryn got back to an even number of teeth with #4 today.  It looks like her top lateral incisors will be in soon too!

June 3, 2006 - Well it took her a lot longer than it did Caitlin, but Ryn finally cut another tooth, her top right central incisor.  Now she can actually bite, which will help her with the solids she loves so much.

April 25, 2006 - At playgroup today I laid Camryn on the floor, I looked away for a few seconds and when I turned around she was sitting up!  That definitely wasn't the way I left her, which means she put herself into a sitting position. ;)  Several times throughout the day I would leave her one way and look back seconds later and she would be sitting.  I guess she didn't want me to see her do it.  Finally before she went to bed, Brad and I got to see her in action. ;)  So cute!

April 17, 2006 - Camryn has a new "word!"  In addition to her dadadada, she now says mamamama!  I am finally getting recognized around here! ;)

April 8, 2006 - Camryn is crawling very well now, and has moved on to pulling up.  Today she pulled up on the bottom stair , got up on her knees, and then all the way up on her feet.  Then she fell over, but it still counts.   ;) We also found out midweek that we were wrong about her first TWO teeth, only one had come through by then.  The second is through now though.

April 1, 2006 - We were at the beach today (Camryn's first time) and when we were cleaning up afterwards Jessica thought Camryn had some sand in her mouth.  However when we tried to wipe it off we found out it wasn't sand, it was her first and second teeth!!!  We'll try to get pictures when they are more noticeable.

March 28, 2006 - Camryn apparently likes to learn in spurts.  This morning she turned her creeping into crawling and went all the way across the room. We have been trying to catch it on video. This afternoon she also reached another milestone by feeding herself. For the past month we have been putting Cheerios on her tray at meal time to entertain her and give her practice picking them up, but she didn't have the coordination to get them into her mouth.  We would just have to give her one every once in a while. Well, today she changed all that and got one into her mouth! She ended up getting 3/6 of the Cheerios I gave her. Pretty good for the first successful day!

March 20, 2006 - Camryn turned 6 months old 5 days ago, so she was rewarded with a visit to the doctor today. ;)  Of course Camryn is still perfect, as if that was in question...  She was 27 inches tall and weighed 17 pounds 8 ounces.  She had 2 immunizations today, but she did very well, just cried for a second.  Camryn was sitting up very straight so the doctor also commented that she had excellent trunk control for her age. :)

March 18, 2006 - Today was a big day for Camryn, capping off the big week in Lexington. She had been trying to inch forward for weeks now, but today she got up on her knees and lunged forward about 3 inches. She repeated this a couple other times during the day, so she is a creeper. Later that day, she also turned her gurgling into da's, and said dadadada, so I guess if we have another monkey it will be a boy... if you believe in that sort of thing... Worked with Caitlin...

March 14, 2006 - We are back in Lexington, and Camryn is putting on a show. Since the first time she sat up, she has been very lazy about it. She  seemed much more interested in laying on the floor and playing with toys, where she was free to roll around the room. Well today something clicked, and she decided she was going to sit up straight and not use her hands to prop herself up any more, and she held on to toys and played like she had been doing it all along. I guess that is just her style.

January 17, 2006 - We have a 4 monther!  Camryn went to the pediatrician today and did great!  She was very happy the whole time... until she got 4 immunizations. :(  Camryn weighed 14 pounds 14 oz (75th percentile) and was 25.75 inches tall (90th percentile)!  Looks like we have another tall monkey on our hands!  We're going to have to move her to the convertible car seat soon, since hers is only "good" up to 26 inches.

January 10, 2006 - Camryn is almost 4 months old, so we decided to introduce her to some solid foods. We also thought it might help with her acid reflux, which has has been bothering her, although not as much since the doctor put her on Zantac... She has been drooling over our food for a while, so although she found it kind of strange and made faces, she liked it and ate very well for her first time. Keep an eye in the pictures for all Camryn's new foods. We plan on giving her oatmeal soon, and then following that up with a new fruit or veggie every week.

January 1, 2006 - Camryn decided to start off the new year with a bang!  She can now sit up alone if positioned.  :)  Her record so far is about one minute at a time! Our baby is getting so big!!

December 17, 2005 - More news from the rolling department! ;)  Camryn finally figured out how to roll from her back to her stomach!  She has done it twice so far and I wasn't looking either time, so I haven't seen her in motion. :-/  We're going to try to get a video of it ASAP!

December 13, 2005 - Camryn loves to roll!  She has now mastered rolling from her tummy onto her back.  When she is having tummy time she sits up real high on her arms, then sways back and forth until she rolls all of the way over.  It's very cute and we have it on video!  Be on the lookout for it soon. :)

November 21, 2005 - Guess who rolled over today?  Yes, it was little Camryn. :)  We were at playgroup and Camryn rolled from her belly onto her back!  I don't know if it was an accident or if she meant to do it though. ;)  I will definitely have her try again after her nap!

November 19, 2005 - Camryn is now just over 2 months old, so today we took her to the pediatrician for her well-baby checkup.  We saw Caitlin's favorite, Dr. Hunt. :)  She commented on how similar Camryn looked to Caitlin and noted that Camryn looked great!!  She weighed 12 pounds 6 ounces (90th percentile) and was 22.75 inches long (75th percentile).  She was still in the 25th percentile for head circumference as well.  Camryn is very alert, makes eye contact with others, and has good neck muscle control for her age.  So, she is right on track!  In other news, Camryn finally got a real bath!  Most of the extra tissue in her belly button  dried up so we put her and Caitlin in the bath together.  Cute pictures coming soon!

November 11, 2005 - Brad can now feed Camryn. :)  He got her to take pumped milk from a bottle today while I was at the doctor with Caitlin.  Camryn doesn't like pacifiers, so we were both surprised that she took the bottle as well as she did.  This means that I can be away from Camryn for a few hours and she won't starve.  :)  Not that I want to be away from her for a LONG time, but it will be  much more convenient.

October 30, 2005 - Camryn's umbilical stump FINALLY fell off today!  Well, for the most part anyway.  The main stump part is gone, but there is still some granulation tissue in her navel.  Who knows how long that will take to dry out...  That monkey stump stayed on for 6 weeks and 3 days!  Too long in my opinion. :)  Unfortunately we still can't give her a real bath, so everyone will just have to wait longer to see her "First Bath" pictures. :(

October 21, 2005 - Camryn erupted in smiles today.  Up to this point, she'd had a few tiny smiles that might have been gas, but today she was definitely smiling at us!  Several times today she has grinned ear to ear, especially when she is around her big sister. :)

October 19, 2005 - We have a one month old!  Well, one month and 4 days but who's counting? ;)  I guess my point is that she had her one month well-baby appointment.  She saw Dr. Britt today and he of course told us that she was perfect, which wasn't really news to us... ;)  Camryn is trying her best to outdo Caitlin.  She weighed more and was taller than Caitlin was at this point.  Her weight was 10 pounds 4 ounces and she was 21.75 inches tall.  She was in the 80th percentile and 75th percentile respectively.  Her head circumference is still small at only 36.2 cm (25th percentile).  Camryn received just one immunization today and she did great!  I think she was more upset by being cold and naked than she was from actually getting the shot. We had a few concerns that we talked to the doctor about.  Camryn has been spitting up in excess after feedings, has been congested, and occasionally seems to "fight" and push away from me while eating.  The doctor wrote her a script for Zantac, thinking that she might have a mild case of acid reflux.  This is due to an immature digestive system and is fairly common in newborns.  So, we'll have to see if the medicine helps her.  I hope it does!

October 4, 2005 -  Unfortunately Camryn seemed to have a little cold this past weekend.  Several other kids in playgroup, including Caitlin, had gotten colds lately so we wanted to make sure Camryn's stuffy nose and sneezing wasn't anything serious.  We took her to the doctor today and Dr. Hedgepeth said it was nothing to worry about, probably just one of many viruses going around due to the change in weather.  She was weighed while we were there and was up to 9 pounds 2 ounces.

September 19, 2005 - Camryn went to the pediatrician today for her first post-hospital check-up.  When she left the hospital she weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces (minus 6 ounces since birth), but today she weighed in at 7 pounds 9 ounces!  Dr. Hewett was quite impressed with her weight gain as newborns are on average gain .5-1 ounce each day.  It's obvious that mama's milk has come in! ;)

September 16, 2005 - Welcome home Camryn! After a long morning we were finally able to bring Camryn home!  We woke up early, well some of us never really slept, in preparation to "check-out" at 11 am.  However, no one in the hospital seemed to be in any rush to let us go.  They took their sweet time, but we finally left around 2 pm, just in time for more visitors at home!  Several moms and toddlers from Caitlin's playgroup came by to meet Camryn.  Also, we made a point to have Camryn quiet when we entered the house in hopes that OJ and Kato would have a better first impression of her than they did of Caitlin, who was screaming her head off. :)

September 15, 2005 - Happy Birthday Camryn Alexis Wright!  Camryn was born today at 2:40 am after 5.5 hours of labor.  She weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 21 inches long.  After arriving at the hospital yesterday, I was given antibiotics in my IV since I tested positive for Group B Strep.  The doctor checked my cervix and it had dilated to 3cm.  After 4 hours, I received a second dose of antibiotics, I had also dilated to almost 4 cm.  This was also where the "induction" came in.  The doctor broke my water at 9:10 pm and we were left to wait for the contractions to begin...  Carolyn Mitchell arrived shortly after to join in the fun!  Over the next few hours we walked the halls, laughed about nothing and had a great time. ;)  When my contractions started picking up I headed to the shower to help alleviate the pain.  Once back in the bed, the doctor came back in to check my progress.  At 2:10 am I was just 7 cm dilated.  I had a feeling that I was in for a LOOONG night.  The doctor also convinced me to accept pitocin to help regulate my contractions.  As the nurse was adding the pitocin to my IV, I felt very nauseous and my contractions became very strong.  At 2:30 am I told everyone that I needed to "push."  The nurse checked my cervix and sure enough I had dilated from 7 to 10 cm in 20 minutes!  After 10 minutes and 3 pushes, Camryn was born!

September 14, 2005 - I went to the OB today for my 40 week appointment.  Before seeing a doctor I had a fetal non-stress test.  During this "test" a machine monitored Camryn's heart rate and how my contractions affected it.  At one point Camryn's heart rate dropped fairly low, so the OB decided to send me to WakeMed for further monitoring.  Between the time I left the OB office and got to the hospital, the doctors had decided that they wanted to induce my labor.  When I got to the hospital the nurse told me that I wasn't leaving until Camryn was born!
